Message from CEO:
How has Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey managed to keep its doors open when so many non-profits have had to close due to the economy? It is simply because our community feels that our mission is important enough to support. With the help of the entire community, which is what it takes to stay financially stable, we have thus far received adequate donations, volunteer time, and in-kind assistance to stay open. However, this support has to continue especially during these financially critical times.
We rely on individual donations, foundations, corporations and grants to raise our $560,000 budget. Even many of our members have decided to pitch in and contribute on a monthly basis because the support of the Gilda’s Club community is that important to them. Several volunteers have approached me to contribute monetary donations in addition to their time.
In order to cut the budget, we had to let go of several staff and hired part time staff in their place. This means the present staff has to take on more work. Volunteers are extremely helpful to fill in the gaps. We are still in need of more volunteers to assure that the program runs smoothly. Please consider giving us s few hours a week. Amy Jackson, our Volunteer Manager is always looking for volunteers who can give their time. Please contact her at ext. 111 to set up an appointment to be trained for a volunteer position. It is critical now that we get the support. Everyone has something to contribute whether it be meeting and greeting at the reception desk, bringing our brochures to doctor’s offices or cooking a dish for one of our potluck suppers.
Another way members, volunteer and the community at large can help is to tell everyone you know about the gift of Gilda’s Club. Spread the word to everyone you know. We all know someone who is touched by cancer. Be a “member navigator” by bringing a friend, neighbor or family member to the clubhouse so they feel comfortable in their initial visit.
I would also appreciate the opportunity to be introduced to anyone who might make a difference to Gilda’s Club. If you can make an introduction to someone who may be in a position to make a donation, please let me know. Gilda’s Club is here for you. Please be there for the community in these difficult times. It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a community to keep our Red Door open.
I thank you,
Lenore Guido
